MEMS Industry Ambitious Plans. From Millions to Trillions? Will MEMS market grow to $1Trillion? This article discusses answers to this question given by participants of the X International MEMS technology symposium that was held under the title "Sensors as the basis for MEMS market enhanced growth up to $1T" and participants of MEMS business forum 2012. So what is their conclusion?
Systems with DDR SDRAM. Providing Performance and Energy Consumption Balance Today developers are constantly looking to integrate more functionality into their SoCs designs. To realize these functions there is a need for high bandwidth memory. Double Data Rate Synchronous Dynamic Random Access Memory (SDRAM DDR) usually is the optimal choice. . But its drawback – high energy consumption creates a problem whether for mobile as well as for wired applications on the SoC basis. That’s why it is critical that designers optimize their DDR SDRAM subsystems to manage power consumption. This article explains how designers can do that.
Altium Designer New Capabilities. Why Should We Forget P-CAD? For many years for Russian electronic systems developers the traditional PCB development framework remained P-CAD. But Altium Designer packet has undeniable advantages in comparison not only with P-CAD but with other similar CADs. New Altium Designer capabilities must become a determining factor in favor of proceeding to new design and development tools.
FRAM. New Capabilities for Wireless Applications Today embedded wireless opportunities aren’t realized to the full extent because of such problems as constraints of power sources and MCUs’ memory capacity, wireless data transfer safety provision, reliability and others. Recently developed ferroelectric random access memory (FRAM) permits to efficiently solve these problems. The article is devoted to FRAM unique features and their employment in wireless applications.
RJ Field Series Connectors. High Reliability n Demanding Conditions Electric connections in LANs with Ethernet data transfer technology are implemented by RJ-45 connectors whose plastic packages are of little use in demanding conditions. The French company Amphenol Socape solved this problem and developed a RJ Field connector line that conforms to 10 BaseT, 100 BaseTX and 1000 BaseT standards and some times even surpasses them.
Towards domestic and imported hardware components. An answer to the letter of JSC Giricond employees
HDO4000 and HDO6000 Oscilloscopes. High Resolution and Wide Range of Features Teledyne LeCroy a leading manufacturer of instrumentation equipment announced two new oscilloscopes series HDO4000 and HDO6000. They are realized by the company’s high resolution technology HD4096 thanks to which and other features the new products can carry out high precision measurements and in-depth analysis of various signals..
Innovations at the Core Level. Energy Efficient Processor Architectures All computer systems require high performance and efficient components that are capable to handle the ever-increasing information content. Up-to-date batteries can’t supply these devices for a sufficient long time. To increase batteries lifetime it is necessary to design CPUs with energy efficient architectures. Recently there were announced multicore systems that provide at the same time high energy efficiency and high processing power that are necessary for the next generation of modern smart phones and tablets. So what like are the new generations of multicore processors for mobile systems?
NXP Expands its LPC4000 Family MCUs MCUs LPC4000 family with ARM Cortex-M4 and Cortex-M0 asymmetric dual-core architectures were realized in 2010. These MCUs promote development of DS DSP and MCUs applications with a single architecture and development framework. This article is dedicated to new MCUs of the family that were realized in September 2012 – LPC408x and LPC407x.
Milander’s Microcontroller К1986ВЕ21У for Active Energy Meters A designer’s goal is to create an electronic device, that complies with the user requirements to the greatest possible extent. This fully applies to digital (smart) electronic power meters that displace their analog competitors thanks to cost reduction and also due to wide variety, adjustability, multifunctionality, high precision and reliability of microcontrollers used in control systems. That’s why CJSC PKK Milander’s 32-bit RISC MCU К1986ВЕ21У for three phase active energy meters is interesting.
ICs Radiation Hardening. Design Techniques on the Basis of Industrial Processes Neither of production process can guarantee complete radiation immunity for components for aerospace systems. To mitigate risks involved with radiation it’s necessary to provide radiation tolerance right from the start of design. This article considers space systems electronic components radiation hardening methods.
Device prototype in half an hour. Current Printed Electronics Capabilities In the process of electronic products fabrication often emerges a situation when the device is developed, engineering design documentation is delivered but production start-up is delayed because of anticipation of PCB or electronic component base. Rapidly developing printed electronics technology in the near future will permit to not only reduce prototyping time but also to produce ICs and components of any degree of complexity. So what can we realize today by printing technology?
PoP ICs. Assembly Expertise One of surface mounting state-of-art-technologies is Package-on-Package (PoP) assembly. Assimilation of new methods requires a number of trials and tests. With properly chosen equipment and efficient assembly and end products testing processes the PoP method can be successfully employed practically.
Passion According to the Laser Half a century ago in Nov.1 1962 in an authoritative American physics novelties publisher Physical Review Letters was published a short report about a sold state device "that performs direct conversion of electrical power to coherent infrared radiation". Just so was declared the semiconductor injection laser or the laser diode that eventually became an electronics inherent component and complemented transistors and chips where it’s necessary to operate on optical signals. Native scientists participated in this not simple but very fascinating history of injection lasers.
