The article provides an overview of studies of the influence of metal-porous cathodes basic parameters on their emissivity and durability. Special attention is paid to thin films covering the emission surface of the cathode. The modes of ion-plasma deposition of thin films and methods for investigation of physical properties of thin films are considered.
